Detroit Tigers Minor League Baseball Commentary and Analysis

What can you say, the Tigers have their work cut out for them. After a tough 2008 and an atrocious economy, you wonder what the final numbers will be. They’ve set attendance records the past few seasons, but I have a feeling that the two year streak of record attendance is going to come to an end.
That doesn’t mean nobody is going to buy Tigers tickets. They have the usual slate of American League teams on their schedule plus their interleague schedule features a few series against NL Central opponents and I’m particularly interested in seeing the Cubs play when they came to town. The last time the Tigers played at Wrigley I was able to get Chicago Cubs tickets to two of the games to check out the historic ballpark.
It’s too bad the Tigers don’t play the Florida Marlins. With the big trade that brought Dontrelle Willis and Miguel Cabrera to town, that team should feature several former Tiger farmhands. Plus it would give me a reason to head down to Miami, which is a city I’ve never been to. I’ve seen pictures of the city in the entertainment news, but that’s the extent of my South Beach experience.
The Red Sox come to town in early June and that’s always a game I try to catch. Getaway day on June 4th looks like a keeper date, but I have to make sure I get online when tickets go on sale. Red Sox tickets, even in Detroit sell well. It’s what you’d expect from a team that’s led the league in road attendance then past few years.
And while a lot of people got hosed last year buying Tiger tickets expecting them to make the postseason, I made a similar mistake this year in another sport. The Pistons just don’t look the same since they traded Chauncey and while I was optimistic about Allen Iverson trade, the Pistons currently cling to the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference. Yes, I was one of those people who bought season Detroit Pistons tickets. For my trouble, the Pistons have gone 18-18 at home and I’m pretty sure out of the games I’ve gone to, they’re under .500. I figured they’d go deep into the playoffs and I could make a bunch of money back when they got to the conference finals or the NBA finals.
