Melvin Mercedes Is Hit Had In Whitecaps Loss

by @ 5:02 am. Filed under Gustavo Nunez, Luke Putkonen, Melvin Mercedes, Ron Bourquin, Tyler Stohr, West Michigan Whitecaps - August 2009

Melvin Mercedes had 16 saves and a 1.82 ERA in 24 2/3 innings for the GCL Tigers but he’s had a tough time since getting promoted to the Whitecaps.  He made his second appearance yesterday and he gave up (with some help from Tyler Stohr, three runs in the bottom of the eighth and he was tagged with the loss.  It’s too bad because a decent start by Luke Putkonen went to waste.  He gave up an unearned run on three hits and four walks with three strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings.

Gustavo Nunez went two for four with a triple and a run.  Ron Bourquin went two for four with a double, a run and an RBI.
