Detroit Tigers Minor League Baseball Commentary and Analysis

I get asked all the time how we travel to all of our Midwest League destinations. The answer is always by a charter bus. No we don’t fly anywhere, teams don’t really start flying until AAA level and even then you have to be going pretty far. For those of us still stuck in A ball, we get the pleasure of bonding with each other over several hour bus rides. Most of this bonding occurs over debating what movies to watch and since everything is fair game, there is some pretty good lobbying. God forbid we ever go on a trip where the dvd player is broken because talking with each other and possibly reading or listening to music just won’t cut it. However there is the occasional card game which takes place towards the back of the bus, which starts out as a friendly way to pass the time and turns into a blood thirsty, vein popping money game. There are also some rules which we go by when boarding the bus; #1. Catchers get their own seat. #2. Starting pitcher, that night gets his own seat. #3. Guys who have been around longer have the ability to get their own seat if they choose. #4. Anyone over 6′ 5″ has the same ability as the veterans. Also I will try to get some photos taken, but if you ever think a tall guy can’t be flexible, ask my teammates how many times I change position while trying to find comfort. I think I could sell a dvd on bus travel yoga, because that’s basically what it looks like. Anyway, that’s a little taste of our bus life, if you and a bunch of friends get the chance to travel in this fashion, think about a caravan.

When you were little I would sing you 2 songs: Take Me Out to the Ballgame” and “The Wheels on the Bus”. Now I see, 20 years later where they have come together, except I can add a verse to the bus song: “the players on the bus say ‘move your a**, move your a**, move your a**’…the players on the bus say move your a** all the way to Lansing”
Go Whitecaps!!!!

It’s that long Hess back. I can relate as I am never comfortable in a car, bus, plane… either. We are still hoping to see those Whitecaps this season. Allen Hess met someone in the men’s rooom at Disney that knew you at UM a guy in a wheelchair with CP who worked in broadcasting I think. We are going to Logan’s wedding in August in Leland outdoor reception in tents on Lake Mi. A long way from playing mud monsters at Murray Lake! Love, Aunt Mary
