Ian Ostlund gave up three late runs to the Knights but Jeremy Johnson came in and pitched the ninth to stop the damage and help the Hens hold on for the win. Zach Miner picked up his first minor league win with a solid start. He gave up two runs on six hits and two walks with six strikeouts in 7 2/3 innings.
Ramon Santiago had three stolen bases and ironically they were his first three of the season. Mike Hessman went two for three with a homerun and two RBIs.
The Mud Hens lost 3-0 and they picked up just five hits in the loss. Timo Perez was the hitting star and he went two for four with a double.
Jose Mesa threw two shutout innings in his rehab start. He then yielded to Zach Miner, who gave up three runs on three hits and four walks with three strikeouts in six innings. The loss drops him to 0-3 on the season.
This is just one of those things. Timo Perez had an eighteen game hitting streak and he was called on to pinch hit in an extra inning loss to Charlotte. With just the one chance, he didn’t come through so the streak ends at 18.
Even more important is the Hens lost this one 6-4. Zach Miner gave up two runs in the sixth that tied the game and then Preston Larrison gave up two unearned runs in the tenth on a two run homer to lose it.
All four Mud Hens runs came via the long ball. Chris Shelton hit a two run shot and Ryan Rayburn and Mike Hessman each hit solo shots.
Zach Miner continued his struggles with his fourth bad start. He gave up five runs on five hits and a walk with four strikeouts in six innings.
Timo Perez had a nice day at the plate in the Hens 6-5 loss. He went two for five with two doubles, two runs and two RBIs. Chris Shelton singled, doubled and drove in two.
The Mud Hens played two today, at least sort of because yesterdays game was suspended after four innings. Yorman Bazardo hopefully got back on track with a decent start and he gave up two runs on four hits with three strikeouts in four innings (he pitched yesterday). Jeremy Johnson picked up the win with three solid innings in which he gave up a single run and struck out four and Aquillino Lopez got the final batter out for his second save of the season. Jack Hannahan went two for four with a double, a run and two RBIs. Ryan Rayburn drove in two runs and Chris Shelton had two hits and two runs.
The second game didn’t go as well as the Bulls shut out the Hens on five hits. Five different Mud Hens singled in a pretty poor hitting game. Just as bad, Zach Miner was shelled and he dropped to 0-2. He gave up seven runs on seven hits and three walks in just 1 1/3 innings and he’s pitching himself out of a chance to replace the struggling Chad Durbin up with the Tigers.
Zach Miner was hit hard in the Mud Hens 5-1 loss to Indianapolis He gave up five runs on four hits and he had a hard time finding the plate with six walks.
The lone run of the game came off a solo shot by Mike Hessman. It was his first of the season.
The Mud Hens lost a tough one in the season opener to the Louisville Bats tonight in a 5-4 ten inning game. Zach Miner struck out five and gave up two runs in four innings while Tim Byrdak had a particularly good relief outing. He struck out four in 2 1/3 perfect innings. Preston Larrison gave up two runs in his one inning of work.
Ryan Rayburn led the way at the plate. He went two for three with a homerun, two runs and two RBIs. David Espinosa also had a good game. He tripled and drove in two runs.
