The Whitecaps came back from a 2-0 deficit to tie the Loos in the seventh inning but Tyler Stohr gave up a run in the top of the tenth as the Whitecaps season ended in a 3-2 loss. Like last year, they forced a third game in the first round of the Midwest League playoffs only to fall in the pivotal third game. Luke Putkonen has a solid start and he gave up two runs in six innings while Tyler Conn threw three shutout innings of relief.
Brent Wyatt went two for five with a double. Brandon Douglas went one for three with a triple, a walk and an RBI.
The Whitecaps lived to fight another day as they evened up their three game series with the Loons after a 7-0 win. Billy Nowlin was the hitting star and he went four for four with three RBIs and a run. Brent Wyatt drew a walk and he scored two runs.
Adam Wilk had a really nice start and he picked up the win. He gave up two hits and he struck out eight in 5 2/3 shutout innings. Robert Waite gave up two hits and he walked one in 3 1/3 shutout innings of relief.
The Whitecaps now face elimination in their best of three game series after a 7-2 loss to the Loons last night. Brandon Douglas went two for four with a double and he drove in both Whitecaps runs and the rest of the team managed just one hit.
Casey Crosby took the loss. He gave up five runs on six hits and two walks with two strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings.
The Whitecaps loss their regular season finale 3-1 but not because of Anthony Shawler’s start. He gave up a run on three hits with seven strikeouts in eight innings and for his exceptional start, he took the loss and fell to 7-5. Tyler Stohr gave up two runs in the top of the ninth and that put the game out of reach.
Alden Carrithers went two for four with a double and he scored the lone run. Billy Nowlin singled and he drove in Carrithers.
The Whitecaps were the lone Tigers affiliate to make the post season. They’ll square off against the Great Lakes Loons in a three game series beginning Wednesday.
The Whitecaps managed just five hits in a 6-0 loss to Fort Wayne in their second to last game of the regular season. Bryan Pounds went two for four while Alden Carrithers went one for three with a walk.
Robert Waite took the loss and he fell to 1-1. He gave up five runs on four hits and four walks with four strikeouts in four innings.
The Whitecaps couldn’t get much done at the plate as they picked up just a pair of hits in a 7-1 loss to Fort Wayne. Gustavo Nunez doubled and he scored the lone run to lead the way at the plate.
Victor Larez was shelled and he gave up six runs in 1 2/3 innings. Brayan Villereal gave up a run in 4 2/3 innings in his start.
The Whitecaps piled on ten runs by the end of the fourth inning as they blew out the Lugnuts 10-2. Gustavo Nunez went two for five with a double, two runs and three RBIs while Ron Borquin went three for six with three RBIs. Jordan Lennerton hit the only home run and he went three for four with a two run home run, three RBIs and two runs.
Anthony Shawler was the beneficiary of all that offense. He improved to 7-4 and he gave up one run on six hits and three walks with six strikeouts in six innings.
