This looks like it would have been a fun game to catch. The White Caps were pummelled in the first four innings and for at least a half inning, they were down 8-0. Then they slowly began to chip away at the lead until they stormed back and scored three in the ninth on a Ben Guez three homer to tie it. Then in the bottom of the thirteenth, Luis Palacios scored on Brandon Douglas’ sac. fly to win it.
Guez finished two for seven but he had the big hit in the ninth. Ron Bourquin went three for six with an RBI in the 9-8 win.
Brandon Hamilton took the brunt of Clinton’s offense and he gave up six runs in 1 2/3 innings. Jared Gayhart gave up just two hits and a walk in four innings of shutout relief while Tyler Stohr struck out four and gave up just one hit in three shutout innings to improve to 2-1 on the season.
The White Caps took care of Beloit 2-0 today behind some solid pitching by Casey Crosby. The former top draft pick gave up just one hit and three walks with seven strikeouts in six shutout innings. Unfortunately, the hitters couldn’t get their bats going early enough and it was actually Tyler Conn who picked up the win. Tyler Stohr pitched a shutout ninth and he picked up his fifth save of the season.
Gustavo Nunez was the hitting star in the win. He was a perfect three for three and he drove in both runs. Chao-Ting Tang went two for three and he scored both runs.
Matt Hoffman threw another good one and he improved to 4-0. He gave up just four hits and two walks with six strikeouts in seven shutout innings. That brings his ERA down to a sick 0.84 on the season and he has 27 strikeouts and just seven walks in 32 1/3 innings. This is just his second start, but in those two starts he’s thrown 15 shutout innings.
Erik Crichton threw a shutout ninth and he picked up his second save of the season. On the hitting side, Gustavo Nunez went two for four with a run. Ben Guez doubled, drew a walk and scored once.
The White Caps had a tough time handling Beloit’s lineup last night and while Brayan Villarreal was impressive in his 3 2/3 innings (eight strikeouts but five walks), Anthony Shawler was knocked around for five runs and he took the loss. Victor Larez also had a tough time and he gave up three runs in 3 1/3 innings.
Brandon Douglas was the hitting star in the 9-3 loss. He went three for three with two walks and two runs.
