The Mud Hens came back from a 7-0 deficit to beat Louisville and they had some late inning heroics to get it done. Mike Hessman drove home Ryan Rayburn in the bottom of the ninth to send the game into extra frames while David Espinosa scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the tenth to win it. Dane Sardinha had a nice day at the plate and he went two for five with a double and three RBIs.
Virgil Vasquez was hit hard in the early parts of this game and he gave up seven runs in five innings. You see this happen sometime. A pitcher will tear it up in the minors, struggle in the majors and then when he gets sent back down, he struggles some more. Hopefully Vasquez can get back on track in his next start.
Vic Darensbourg got it done in relief and he picked up the win. He gave up just two hits and a walk with three strikeouts in three innings.
A solid start by Yorman Bazardo went to waste today as the pen gave up the tying run in the eighth and then lost when they gave up two runs in the eleventh. Bazardo gave up one unearned run on three hits and a walk with three strikeouts in six innings. That’s two nice starts in a row for the big right hander.
Tim Byrdak gave up the tying run in the eighth and then Jason Karnuth lost it when he gave up a two run homer in the bottom of the eleventh. Sandwiched between those two were two shutout innings by Vic Darensbourg.
At the plate, Timo Perez extended his hitting streak to eighteen games with a solid two for four game. Andrew Graham went two for two with an RBI and a run in the 4-2 loss.
The Mud Hens got just enough offense to top the Durham Bulls 5-4. Ryan Rayburn led the way with a two run homer and Ramon Santiago doubled twice, scored a run and drove in one.
Ron Chiavacci had a tough time in his start. He gave up four runs on six hits and one walk with six strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings. Vic Darensbourg picked up the win and Aquilino Lopez picked up his third save of the season.
