A really nice start by Luke Putkonen went to waste in the Flying Tigers 2-1 loss to Dunedin. He gave up just a run on six hits and a walk with three strikeouts in seven innings. Tyler Conn gave up a tenth inning run and he took the loss.
Alden Carrithers went one for two with two walks and he scored the lone run for Lakeland. Bryan Pounds was the lone hitter with two hits in the game.
Christopher White singled in the top of the sixth inning and that was the only hit of the game for the Flying Tigers in there 2-0 loss to Tampa. The only other hitter to reach base with John Murrian with a walk.
Brayan Villareal struck out eight in four innings but he gave up two runs on six hits and he took the loss. Tyler Conn threw 2 2/3 innings of shutout relief in his outing.
The Whitecaps came back from a 2-0 deficit to tie the Loos in the seventh inning but Tyler Stohr gave up a run in the top of the tenth as the Whitecaps season ended in a 3-2 loss. Like last year, they forced a third game in the first round of the Midwest League playoffs only to fall in the pivotal third game. Luke Putkonen has a solid start and he gave up two runs in six innings while Tyler Conn threw three shutout innings of relief.
Brent Wyatt went two for five with a double. Brandon Douglas went one for three with a triple, a walk and an RBI.
The Whitecaps lost one then won one as they split a twin bill yesterday against Fort Wayne. Game one was 3-1 and Victor Larez took the loss. He gave up one unearned run on four hits and two walks with a strikeout in four innings and the loss dropped him to 5-9. The Whitecaps managed only three hits and Billy Nowlin went one for two with a walk and a run.
Robert Waite and Tyler Conn combined for the seven inning shutout in game two. Waite gave up three hits and two walks in four innings in his no-decision start while Conn improved to 6-3 with three shutout innings of relief in which he didn’t allow a hit or a walk. Gustavo Nunez went two for three with a solo home run while Luis Salas doubled, drove in two and scored a run.
Brayan Villarreal improved to 3-0 on the season with a really nice start in the Whitecaps 9-0 win over Peoria. He gave up six hits and a walk with six strikeouts in five innings. Tyler Conn struck out two in his one inning of relief.
Mike Gosse was a perfect four for four with a double, two runs and two RBIs. Ben Guez went three for five with a home run, three RBIs and two run.
Mark Sorensen improved to 3-2 on the season with a really nice start in the Whitecaps 4-1 win over the Loons. He gave up just a run on six hits with four strikeouts in eight innings. Tyler Conn struck out two in a shutout ninth to pick up his third save of the season.

The White Caps took care of Beloit 2-0 today behind some solid pitching by Casey Crosby. The former top draft pick gave up just one hit and three walks with seven strikeouts in six shutout innings. Unfortunately, the hitters couldn’t get their bats going early enough and it was actually Tyler Conn who picked up the win. Tyler Stohr pitched a shutout ninth and he picked up his fifth save of the season.
Gustavo Nunez was the hitting star in the win. He was a perfect three for three and he drove in both runs. Chao-Ting Tang went two for three and he scored both runs.
