The Mud Hens pursuit of their third straight Governor’s Cup came to an abrupt end as they were swept by the Durham Bulls 3-0. Aquilino Lopez gave up three ninth inning runs in his second inning of work in a 5-2 loss. Eulogio De La Cruz had a mixed start. He gave up just two runs on two hits with eight strikeouts but he also walked seven in 5 2/3 innings.
Andres Torres belted a solo homerun in the first inning. David Espinosa went two for three with a triple, a walk and a run.
Jordan Tata had a rough start as the Mud Hens lost to Durham 9-5. The loss now puts them in a situation where they have to win three straight games to advance to Governor’s Cup finals. Tata gave up six runs on nine hits and two walks with six strikeouts in five innings.
Erick Almonte provided the bulk of the Mud Hens offense in the game. He went three for four with a triple, four RBIs and a run.
The Mud Hens lost their first game in their hunt for their third straight Governors Cup in a high scoring affair. Dennis Tankersley was knocked around for five runs in 3 1/3 innings but the Hens came back from that only to see Jason Karnuth give up four runs to take the loss. Hens pitchers gave up runs in six of the eight innings they pitched in.
Chris Shelton homered, drove in two and scored twice in the 11-8 loss. Andres Torres went two for five with a double and three runs.
The Mud Hens lost their final regular season to the Clippers 4-3 and it was a late inning meltdown that saw Columbus score two in the eighth and two in the ninth. Chris Lampert, the player to be named later in the Mike Maroth trade, threw six shutout innings in which he struck out ten. Then Aquilino Lopez gave up two unearned runs in the top of the ninth as the Clippers completed their comeback.
Chris Shelton belted a two run homer, his fourteenth of the season. Michael Hollimon had his best game since he joined the Mud Hens and he went two for four with a triple and a run.
The Mud Hens won two in one day as they pulled of a sweep over the Clippers. Game one saw Erick Almonte go two for three with a double, three RBIs and two runs in a 5-4 win. Andres Torres went four for four with a double, two triples and two runs. Anastacio Martinez gave up a hit with two walks and a strikeout in 1 2/3 innings of shutout relief.
Game two was a 6-4 Mud Hens win. Jason Perry belted a two run homer while Henry Mateo went two for three with a walk and two runs. Vic Darensbourg improved to 6-2 and he gave up one hit with four strikeouts in two innings of shutout relief.
The Mud Hens were held to just three base hits in a 4-0 loss to the Clippers. Erick Almonte was the only Hen hitter to reach base twice. He tripled and drew a walk.
Jordan Tata had a pretty nice start go to waste and he fell to 4-5. He gave up one run on four hits and two walks with six strikeouts in six innings.
