Chris Lambert fell to 6-4 on the season after a rough start in the Hens 10-1 loss to the Yankees. Lambert gave up seven runs (six earned) on seven hits and two walks in 3 1/3 innings.
To add insult to injury, the Hens managed just two hits. Freddy Guzman singled and drove in a run while Jackson Melian scored the lone run without getting a hit.
Fernando Seguignol had a huge day at the plate as the Hens edged the Chiefs 5-4. He went two for two with two walks, a homerun, two runs and two RBIs. Jackson Melian went two for four with two RBIs and a run.
Anastacio Martinez improved to 1-1 with a good enough start. He gave up three runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks with three strikeouts in five innings of work. Blaine Neal pitched a shutout ninth and he picked up save number 20.
The Hens took care of the Chiefs 5-2 and it was Clete Thomas who got it done at the plate. He had three of the four Hens hits and he drove in four of their five runs in the win. He also hit his sixth homer of the season.
Chris Lambert continued to impress and he improved to 6-3. He gave up one run on four hits and three walks with six strikeouts in six innings. Joel Zumaya struck out two and gave up an unearned run in the seventh while Francisco Cruceta walked one in a no hit eighth. Blaine Neal pitched a perfect ninth and he picked up save number 19.
The Hens pen gave up three of the Chiefs five runs as a solid outing by Yorman Bazardo went to waste. Brian Rogers gave up two runs in his inning of work and he fell to 0-2 while Matt Rusch gave up a run in the eighth that helped seal the deal.
Matt Joyce went two for three with two doubles, a walk, a run and an RBI. Nick Trzesniak doubled and drove in two runs.
Lauren Gagnier had his best start since joining the Hens and he improved to 1-1 in Toledo’s 4-1 win over the Chiefs. He gave up one run on three hits and two walks with three strikeouts in six innings. Joel Zumaya and Francisco Cruceta both threw shutout innings and Blaine Neal threw a perfect ninth for his 18th save of the season.
Erick Almonte homered, doubled and drove in three runs. Mike Hessman didn’t see much to hit and he walks three times and scored a run.
The Hens lost to the Clippers 2-1 in a game that saw the Hens hitters held to just five hits. Freddy Guzman was the hitting star and he went two for four with a double and an RBI.
Virgil Vasquez had one of his better starts of the season. He gave up one run on four hits and two walks with four strikeouts in seven innings. Clay Rapada gave up a run in the eighth and he took the loss.
The Mud Hens picked up just four hits tonight and most of their production came from the top of the order. Freddy Guzman went two for four with a double, a triple and two runs while Timo Perez doubled and drove in two.
Eddie Bonine fell to 9-2 with a rough start. He gave up five runs on eight hits and two walks with five strikeouts in six innings. More discouraging was how Fernando Rodney was knocked around for three runs in just 1/3 of an inning.
Yorman Bazardo’s struggles continued and he fell to 1-2 in the Hens 8-5 loss at Louisville. He gave up six runs on eight hits and one walk with five strikeouts in six innings.
Mike Hessman hit his 21st homer of the season and he finished with three RBIs. Erick Almonte and Brent Clevlen also went yard in the loss.
The Hens had several hitting stars in a 17-3 blowout win over Indianapolis. Brent Clevlen went three for six with a double, a homerun and five RBIs. Timo Perez was a perfect four for four with four RBIs and three runs while Freddy Guzman went four for five with a triple, three RBIs and four runs.
