Timo Perez’s Hitting Streak Ends in Mud Hens Ten Inning Loss

by @ 6:28 pm. Filed under Chris Shelton, Mike Hessman, Preston Larrison, Toledo Mud Hens - April 2007, Zach Miner

This is just one of those things. Timo Perez had an eighteen game hitting streak and he was called on to pinch hit in an extra inning loss to Charlotte.   With just the one chance, he didn’t come through so the streak ends at 18.

Even more important is the Hens lost this one 6-4.  Zach Miner gave up two runs in the sixth that tied the game and then Preston Larrison gave up two unearned runs in the tenth on a two run homer to lose it.

All four Mud Hens runs came via the long ball.  Chris Shelton hit a two run shot and Ryan Rayburn and Mike Hessman each hit solo shots.

by @ 10:43 am. Filed under Andrew Graham, Jason Karnuth, Tim Byrdak, Timo Perez, Toledo Mud Hens - April 2007, Vic Darensbourg, Yorman Bazardo

A solid start by Yorman Bazardo went to waste today as the pen gave up the tying run in the eighth and then lost when they gave up two runs in the eleventh.  Bazardo gave up one unearned run on three hits and a walk with three strikeouts in six innings.  That’s two nice starts in a row for the big right hander.

Tim Byrdak gave up the tying run in the eighth and then Jason Karnuth lost it when he gave up a two run homer in the bottom of the eleventh.  Sandwiched between those two were two shutout innings by Vic Darensbourg.

At the plate, Timo Perez extended his hitting streak to eighteen games with a solid two for four game.  Andrew Graham went two for two with an RBI and a run in the 4-2 loss.

Virgil Vasquez Strikes Out Ten in Second Straight Win

by @ 5:47 pm. Filed under Kevin Hooper, Mike Hessman, Ryan Raburn, Toledo Mud Hens - April 2007, Virgil Vasquez

Virgil Vasquez’s first two starts were very bad.  Fortunately, his last two have been very good and this time around, he shut out Durham through six innings and even more impressive were his ten strikeouts.  You could be looking at Chad Durbin’s replacement if he has one more solid start and Durbin tanks another one.

Ryan Rayburn and Mike Hessman each drove in two run.  Hessman and Kevin Hooper each went yard in the 10-2 win.

Toledo Wins One, Loses One in Suspended Game Doubleheader

by @ 6:31 pm. Filed under Aquilino Lopez, Chris Shelton, Jack Hannahan, Jeremy Johnson, Ryan Raburn, Toledo Mud Hens - April 2007, Yorman Bazardo, Zach Miner

The Mud Hens played two today, at least sort of because yesterdays game was suspended after four innings.  Yorman Bazardo hopefully got back on track with a decent start and he gave up two runs on four hits with three strikeouts in four innings (he pitched yesterday).  Jeremy Johnson picked up the win with three solid innings in which he gave up a single run and struck out four and Aquillino Lopez got the final batter out for his second save of the season.  Jack Hannahan went two for four with a double, a run and two RBIs.  Ryan Rayburn drove in two runs and Chris Shelton had two hits and two runs.

The second game didn’t go as well as the Bulls shut out the Hens on five hits.  Five different Mud Hens singled in a pretty poor hitting game.  Just as bad, Zach Miner was shelled and he dropped to 0-2.  He gave up seven runs on seven hits and three walks in just 1 1/3 innings and he’s pitching himself out of a chance to replace the struggling Chad Durbin up with the Tigers.

Kevin Hooper had a nice day at the plate.  He went three for four with a double and two runs.  Ryan Rayburn doubled and drove in a run while Brent Clevelen had two hits.  Chris Shelton continued to hit well and he drove in two runs and singled and he’s hitting .375 so far this season.
