Ron Chiavacci dropped to 1-2 on the season with a poor start in the Mud Hens 7-5 loss. He gave up five runs on seven hits and two walks with five strikeouts in six innings.
Timo Perez had a nice day at the plate. He went two for five with a double, two RBIs and two runs. Ryan Rayburn and Ramon Santiago each had three hits in the loss.
Dane Sardinha drove home Jack Hannahan in the bottom of the tenth inning as the Mud Hens beat the Yankees 2-1 in ten innings. Hannahan was one of the three Mud Hens to finish with two hits in the game.
Virgil Vasquez got it done again and he ‘s looking better and better as the season progresses. He gave up five hits and two walks with seven strikeouts in seven shutout innings and its the third time in four starts he’s gone at least five innings and not given up an earned run. Unfortunately, he didn’t pick the win though. Tim Byrdak did with a shutout top of the tenth.
The Mud Hens lost 3-0 and they picked up just five hits in the loss. Timo Perez was the hitting star and he went two for four with a double.
Jose Mesa threw two shutout innings in his rehab start. He then yielded to Zach Miner, who gave up three runs on three hits and four walks with three strikeouts in six innings. The loss drops him to 0-3 on the season.
Jack Hannahan drove in the only run of the game for the Mud Hens in their 4-1 loss to Rochester. He went two for four with a double while Mike Hessman finished with two singles.
Yorman Bazardo was cruising in this one until he was touched up for two runs in the ninth inning. He dropped to 1-2 and he gave up three runs on eight hits and two walks with four strikeouts in 8 1/3 innings.
Dennis Tankersley was crusing in this one, and he came out in the eighth inning after giving up two runs to make it a 6-3 lead. Then in the ninth, the Jason Karnuth collapsed and gave up six runs to lose it. The two errors in the inning didn’t help things though.
Chris Shelton had a big day at the plate. He went two for three with two doubles, two walks and four RBIs. Kevin Hooper went four for five with two doubles, an RBI and two runs.
The Mud Hens scored just one run on four hits in their 3-1 loss to Rochester. Brent Clevlen scored the lone run after he tripled and he was also the only hitter to reach base twice.
Ron Chiavacci had a solid start but he dropped to 1-1 with the loss. He gave up three runs on seven hits and two walks with five strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings.
Virgil Vasquez had his third straight solid start as the Mud Hens topped Rochester 6-2. He gave up two runs on seven hits with six strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings. In his last three starts, he’s given up just two earned runs in 18 1/3 innings and he’s struck out 25.
The Mud Hens did most of their hitting once Matt Garza left the game but it doesn’t matter when you score them. Jack Hannahan and Mike Hessman went yard and Hessman finished with two runs in the win.
This is just one of those things. Timo Perez had an eighteen game hitting streak and he was called on to pinch hit in an extra inning loss to Charlotte. With just the one chance, he didn’t come through so the streak ends at 18.
Even more important is the Hens lost this one 6-4. Zach Miner gave up two runs in the sixth that tied the game and then Preston Larrison gave up two unearned runs in the tenth on a two run homer to lose it.
All four Mud Hens runs came via the long ball. Chris Shelton hit a two run shot and Ryan Rayburn and Mike Hessman each hit solo shots.
A solid start by Yorman Bazardo went to waste today as the pen gave up the tying run in the eighth and then lost when they gave up two runs in the eleventh. Bazardo gave up one unearned run on three hits and a walk with three strikeouts in six innings. That’s two nice starts in a row for the big right hander.
Tim Byrdak gave up the tying run in the eighth and then Jason Karnuth lost it when he gave up a two run homer in the bottom of the eleventh. Sandwiched between those two were two shutout innings by Vic Darensbourg.
At the plate, Timo Perez extended his hitting streak to eighteen games with a solid two for four game. Andrew Graham went two for two with an RBI and a run in the 4-2 loss.
The Mud Hens won 8-1 and it was Dennis Tankersley who got it done on the mound. He gave up one run on four hits and a walk with five strikeouts in seven innings of work. Preston Larrison threw two shutout frames to close out the game.
Timo Perez finished the game three for five with a homerun and three RBIs. David Espinosa only picked up one hit but his grand slam was a big one.
Talk about your marathon games. The Mud Hens beat the Bulls today in sixteen innings by the score of 7-4. The Mud Hens blew a 3-0 lead and then they gave up another lead when both teams scored in the twelth. It finally ended in the sixteenth though when the Hens were able to rack up three runs to win it.
Mike Hessman had a big day at the plate. He went four for seven with a double, two homeruns, two RBIs and three runs.
Ron Chiavacci struck out ten in his six inning start and Tim Byrdak struck out five in two shutout frames. Ian Ostlund picked up the win and he struck out three in two shutout innings.
Virgil Vasquez’s first two starts were very bad. Fortunately, his last two have been very good and this time around, he shut out Durham through six innings and even more impressive were his ten strikeouts. You could be looking at Chad Durbin’s replacement if he has one more solid start and Durbin tanks another one.
Ryan Rayburn and Mike Hessman each drove in two run. Hessman and Kevin Hooper each went yard in the 10-2 win.
Zach Miner continued his struggles with his fourth bad start. He gave up five runs on five hits and a walk with four strikeouts in six innings.

Three singles were all the Mud Hens got today in their 4-0 loss to Buffalo. The loss drops them to 6-7 on the season and they currently stand in third place in the West Division behind both Louisville and Indianapolis.
Dennis Tankersley was touched up and he took his first loss of the season. He gave up three runs on six hits and three walks with three strikeouts in just 4 1/3 innings.
The Mud Hens got just enough offense to top the Durham Bulls 5-4. Ryan Rayburn led the way with a two run homer and Ramon Santiago doubled twice, scored a run and drove in one.

After two straight losses, Virgil Vasquez bounced back with a fine outing against the Durham Bulls. He gave up just three hits and a walk with nine strikeouts in five innings.
Brent Clevlen singled and drove in two runs in the 6-0 win. Kevin Hooper went two for five with an RBI.
The Mud Hens played two today, at least sort of because yesterdays game was suspended after four innings. Yorman Bazardo hopefully got back on track with a decent start and he gave up two runs on four hits with three strikeouts in four innings (he pitched yesterday). Jeremy Johnson picked up the win with three solid innings in which he gave up a single run and struck out four and Aquillino Lopez got the final batter out for his second save of the season. Jack Hannahan went two for four with a double, a run and two RBIs. Ryan Rayburn drove in two runs and Chris Shelton had two hits and two runs.
The second game didn’t go as well as the Bulls shut out the Hens on five hits. Five different Mud Hens singled in a pretty poor hitting game. Just as bad, Zach Miner was shelled and he dropped to 0-2. He gave up seven runs on seven hits and three walks in just 1 1/3 innings and he’s pitching himself out of a chance to replace the struggling Chad Durbin up with the Tigers.
Ryan Rayburn came up big with a two run homer in the bottom of the six to push the Mud Hens ahead of the Durham Bulls today. Mike Hessman singled, walked twice and drove in two runs. Timo Perez had two hits and two runs.
Dennis Tankersley picked up the win. He gave up four runs on eight hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Aquilino Lopez pitched a perfect ninth and he picked up the save.
So far, Virgil Vazquez hasn’t adjusted to Triple A yet as he was hit hard in his second straight start. This time he gave up six runs (four earned) on twelve hits and a walk with one strikeout in six innings of work. Jason Karnuth threw two innings of relief and he gave up a run on one hit and two strikeouts.
Kevin Hooper had a nice day at the plate. He went three for four with a double and two runs. Ryan Rayburn doubled and drove in a run while Brent Clevelen had two hits. Chris Shelton continued to hit well and he drove in two runs and singled and he’s hitting .375 so far this season.
