The Hens lost to the Bats yesterday 5-3 in their first game of the season. After Ruddy Lugo gave up five runs in his 4 2/3 innings of work, the Hens rallied for three runs in the sixth but that’s all they could manage. The excitement came when Ryan Strieby and Jeff Larish hit back to back home runs. Larish finished with two hits while Brent Dlugach went three for five.
Lugo gave up the five runs on seven hits in 4 2/3 innings and he fell to 0-1. Dan Schlereth looked sharp with 2 1/3 shutout innings (three strikeouts). Robbie Weinhardt also had a good outing with two strikeouts in a shutout eighth inning.
This one was ugly. It was 8-0 after the first and 10-0 after three innings. Rudy Lugo had a day he wished he’d forget. He gave up eight runs on eight hits and a walk with a strikeout in just 2/3 of an inning. Jeff Frazier was also hit hard and he gave up four runs in two innings.
Brent Clevlen went two for three with a walk and a run. Wilkin Ramirez singled and he drove in two.
Ron Chiavacci gave up a run in the top of the tenth and he took the loss as the Hens lost to Norfolk 7-6. This was after a rough start by Rudy Lugo. He gave up five runs (four earned) on nine hits and two walks with a strikeout in 5 1/3 innings.
The offense kept the Hens in this one and it was Dusty Ryan who led the way. He went four for five with two doubles, a home run and two runs scored. Jeff Frazier went three for five with a double and a run.
