Chris Lambert left the game in the sixth inning with a 4-2 lead only to see the bullpen cave in and lose it in a 7-5 loss to the Clippers. Lambert gave up two runs on seven hits and two walks with seven strikeouts. Preston Larrison took the loss and he fell to 2-2. He gave up three runs on one hits and four walks in 1 2/3 innings.
Jeff Larish and Michael Hollimon both went yard in the game. For Larish, it was number 15 and for Hollimon it was his 12th.
The Mud Hens scored two in the eighth inning and one in the ninth to edge the Charlotte Knights 6-5. Dane Sardinha drove in the winning run with a solo homer while Jeff Larish, Mike Hessman and Michael Hollimon all went yard. For Hessman, it’s his 17th homer of the season and six homeruns in his last six games.
Dontrelle Willis had a tough time in his rehab start. He gave up five runs on seven hits and three walks with three strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings. Preston Larrison threw 2 1/3 innings of shutout ball and he improved to 2-1 while Blaine Neal threw a shutout ninth to pick up his 13th save of the season.
Michael Hollimon belted a walk off homer in the bottom of the tenth as the Hens knocked Lehigh Valley 7-6. It was Hollimon’s only hit of the game while Brent Clevlen went two for three with a double, a triple and three RBIs.
Jeremy Johnson gave up four runs in his five innings of work. Preston Larrison picked up the win with three shutout innings to close out the game.
Virgil Vasquez picked up his first win of the season with an impressive pitching performance in Toledo’s home opener. He gave up just a single run on three hits and a walk with eight strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings. Preston Larrison gave up a run in his single inning and Blaine Neal pitched a perfect ninth to pick up his first save of the season.
Dane Sardinha was the hitting star in the win. He went two for three with a solo homerun. Timo Perez didn’t get a hit, but he stole two bases and Mike Hessman went two for four with a double and a run.
Three different Mud Hens pitches gave up a combined eight runs in the seventh inning as the Bats took this one 10-8. Yorman Bazardo got the inning going but he was pulled with one out before Preston Larrison came in and gave up the bulk of the damage. He took the loss and he gave up four runs on four hits with out getting a single batter out.
Ryan Rayburn didn’t get a hit but the big news was his callup to the big league team. Jack Hannahan was two for three with a double and two runs.
David Espinosa had four hits and two RBIs in the Mud Hens 5-2 win over the Chiefs. Chris Maples also had a nice game and he went two for three with one RBI and one run.
Jordan Tata had a nice start but he didn’t pick up the decision. He gave up two runs on five hits and four walks with two strikeouts. Preston Larrison picked up the win with 2 1/3 shutout innings.
This is just one of those things. Timo Perez had an eighteen game hitting streak and he was called on to pinch hit in an extra inning loss to Charlotte. With just the one chance, he didn’t come through so the streak ends at 18.
Even more important is the Hens lost this one 6-4. Zach Miner gave up two runs in the sixth that tied the game and then Preston Larrison gave up two unearned runs in the tenth on a two run homer to lose it.
All four Mud Hens runs came via the long ball. Chris Shelton hit a two run shot and Ryan Rayburn and Mike Hessman each hit solo shots.
The Mud Hens won 8-1 and it was Dennis Tankersley who got it done on the mound. He gave up one run on four hits and a walk with five strikeouts in seven innings of work. Preston Larrison threw two shutout frames to close out the game.
Timo Perez finished the game three for five with a homerun and three RBIs. David Espinosa only picked up one hit but his grand slam was a big one.
It took them three games, but the Mud Hens finally picked up their first win of the season in a 14-2 blowout win over the Bats. Mike Hessman was a perfect five for five and he scored three times while Chris Shelton and Timo Perez both homered. Ramon Santiago and Brent Clevlen both drove in three runs as everyone was a hitting star.
Dennis Tankersley picked up the win with five solid innings. He gave up two runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Preston Larrison had a tough time on the mound. He gave up two hits and four walks in 2 1/3 but oddly, all of those walks didn’t come back to haunt him as he didn’t give up a run.
The Mud Hens lost a tough one in the season opener to the Louisville Bats tonight in a 5-4 ten inning game. Zach Miner struck out five and gave up two runs in four innings while Tim Byrdak had a particularly good relief outing. He struck out four in 2 1/3 perfect innings. Preston Larrison gave up two runs in his one inning of work.
Ryan Rayburn led the way at the plate. He went two for three with a homerun, two runs and two RBIs. David Espinosa also had a good game. He tripled and drove in two runs.
