The Whitecaps fell to the Loons 5-3 and while the pitching was decent, it was enough to walk away with the win in this one. Jade Todd fell to 0-2 and he gave up three runs (two earned) on six hits and a walk with six strikeouts in five innings. Nate Newman gave up two runs on two hits and a walk with two strikeouts in four innings of relief.
Michael Rockett doubled and scored a run in the loss. Eric Roof went two for three with a walk.
The Tigers scored a run in the ninth to take the lead only to see Kenny Faulk give up two unearned runs in the bottom of the ninth as Oneonta lost a tough one 3-2. A solid start by Nate Newman went to waste. He gave up one run on six hits and one walk with three strikeouts in five innings. Jose Ortega threw three shutout innings of relief and he struck out three.
Jamie Johnson went two for four with a double and a triple. Matthew Mansilla belted a solo home run and he drew a walk.
Oneonta took care of Hudson Valley 3-1 and while Nate Newman had a decent start (one run in 4 1/3 innings), the bullpen really shined in this one. Michael Torrealba improved to 2-1 and he threw 2 2/3 shutout innings while Jose Ortega threw two shutout frames and he picked up his first save of the season.
Alexis Espinoza belted a solo home run in the win, his second of the season. Michael Rockett tripled and he drove in a run.
Oneonta couldn’t get much going at the plate as they fell to Staten Island 4-1. Alexis Espinoza went two for four with a double and Jamie Johnson doubled, drew a walk and drove in the lone Tigers run.
Nate Newman threw four shutout innings in his start. Michael Morrison took the loss and he fell to 1-1. He gave up three runs and he was able to get just one batter out.
There were plenty of hitting stars in the Tigers 13-4 win over Tri-City but Rawley Bishop was a notch above the rest. He went four for six with a home run, two RBIs and two runs. Jamie Johnson also had a big day and he went three for five with a triple, three RBIs and a run.
Nate Newman picked up the win and he improved to 2-1. He gave up three unearned runs on three hits and two walks with four strikeouts in five innings.
A run on five hits isn’t going to cut it and that’s all the Oneonta Tigers could muster in a 2-1 loss to Lowell. Jamie Johnson had the only extra base hit with a double while Jimmy Gulliver drew a walk and scored the lone run.
Clemente Mendoza took the loss and he fell to 0-1. He gave up two runs on four hits with two strikeouts in three innings of relief. Nate Newman struck out five in three shutout innings in his start.
