Jacob Turner shined in what turned out to be a White Caps loss in his professional debut. He pitched five shutout innings in which he gave up just two hits and he struck out seven while walking none. Unfortunately, Victor Larez wasn’t as successful and he gave up five runs (three earned) in 1 2/3 innings of relief.
Wade Gaynor had a big day at the plate. He went two for five with a double, a home run and three RBIs in the 6-4 loss. Eric Roof and Mike Gosse each had three hits.
Brooks Brown fell to 3-13 on the season with a rough start in the Hens 7-2 loss to the Clippers. He gave up six runs on six hits and two walks in five innings.
Maxwell Leon drove in both Hens runs with a two run shot in the ninth. Mike Gosse and Jeff Frazier both went two for four.
Dontrelle Willis picked up his first win for the Hens with a solid start. He gave up two runs on six hits and only two walks with five strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings. Freddy Dolsi pitched a shutout ninth and he picked up his tenth save of the season.
Mike Gosse hit a two run home run in the 4-3 win. Mike Hessman went yard wth a solo shot.
Brandon Hamilton didn’t take the loss in this one, but his stats sure were brutal. He gave up four run on three hits and two walks and he was able to get just one batter out. That pushed his ERA on the season up to 7.24. Brayan Villereal did take the loss and he fell to 5-5. He gave up four runs (three earned) on seven hits and two walks with five strikeouts in five innings.
Billy Nowlin went three for four with a run. Mike Gosse went two for four and he drove in a run.
Billy Nowlin had a big day at the plate as the Whitecaps took care of South Bend 9-6. He belted a pair of home runs and he drove in three while Mike Gosse went three for four with a double, a run and an RBI.
Anthony Shawler picked up the win and he improved to 8-3. He gave up two runs on four hits and two walks with five strikeouts in seven innings.
Brayan Villarreal improved to 3-0 on the season with a really nice start in the Whitecaps 9-0 win over Peoria. He gave up six hits and a walk with six strikeouts in five innings. Tyler Conn struck out two in his one inning of relief.
Mike Gosse was a perfect four for four with a double, two runs and two RBIs. Ben Guez went three for five with a home run, three RBIs and two run.
Casey Crosby improved to 5-2 on the season with a nice start in the Caps 6-0 win over the Dayton Dragons. He gave up two hits and three walks with five strikeouts in five innings. Victor Larez struck out two in three shutout innings of relief.
Mike Gosse went three for four with an RBI. Billy Nowlin went one for three with a solo homer, two walks and three runs.
Jared Gayhart gave up a solo homer in the bottom of the ninth and that proved to be the difference in the Whitecaps 5-4 loss to the Dragons. It was Gayhart’s third inning of relief and he fell to 5-3. Brandon Hamilton had another mediocre start and he gave up four runs on six hits and two walks with four strikeouts in six innings. With his rough first couple of months, you wonder if Hamilton is destined for Oneonta when the short season teams start up.
Joseph Bowen went two for four with two RBIs. Mike Gosse went two for four with a double, a run and an RBI.
Oneonta blew out Lowell 14-6 and while there were plenty of hitting stars, Billy Nowlin was a notch above the rest. He went three for four with a homerun, five RBIs and three runs. Mike Gosse went two for four with two RBIs and three runs.
Darwin De Leon had a rough start but with all the offense, he improved to 6-3. He gave up four runs on nine hits and one walk with seven strikeouts in five innings.
