Detroit Tigers Minor League Baseball Commentary and Analysis

The Flying Tigers had plenty of hitting stars in their 11-5 win over Dunedin but Brennan Boesch had a particularly big game. He went two for five with a triple, a homerun, four RBIs and two runs. Scott Sizemore was one of two hitters who had three hits and he scored three times.
Matt O’Brien improved to 4-1 on the season with a solid start. He gave up four runs on seven hits and two walks with two strikeouts in five innings of work.
Lakeland lost Tampa 5-4 despite coming back from three runs to tie the game. Unfortunately, Nicholas Martin gave up a run in the ninth inning and that cost Lakeland the win. Jonah Nickerson had a mediocre start and he gave up four runs (one earned) on five hits and three walks with three strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings.
Cale Iorg was the hitting star with a three run blast. James Skelton went two for four with a run and an RBI.
Duane Below improved to 3-3 with a nice start in the Flying Tigers 4-0 win over Tampa. He gave up just two hits and a walk with seven strikeouts in seven shutout innings. Jay Sborz struck out two in two perfect innings to close out the game.
Jeffrey Kunkel was the hitting star in the win. He went two for three with a double, a run and an RBI.
Lakeland and Palm Beach needed eleven innings to finsh a game that saw a combined 23 runs and 33 hits. Rick Porcello had one of his worst starts of the season and he gave up four runs in five innings while Zach Simons picked up the win with a shutout eleventh inning.
Santo De Leon went three for six with a homerun, three RBIs and two runs. Jeramy Laster blasted a three run homer in the ninth to tie the game up (the Flying Tigers came back from a seven run deficit).
Lakeland scored just two runs in a 5-2 loss to Palm Beach as the hitters were held in check. Soctt Sizemore was the hitting star and he went two for four with a walk and a solo homer.
A nice start by Ramon Garcia went to waste. He gave up two runs on eight hits with a strikeout in six innings. Guillermo Moscoso fell to 0-1 and he gave up three runs in 2 1/3 innings.
When the dust settled, Lakeland was beat down by Palm Beach 13-2 and seven of those runs came in the ninth inning. Matt O’Brien suffered his first loss of the season and he fell to 3-1. He gave up six runs (three earned) on eight hits with four strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings. Zach Simons gave up five runs on four hits and three walks in just 2/3 of an inning.
Brennan Boesch provided all of the Flying Tigers offense in this one. HE belted a two run homer in the fourth inning, and that was Lakeland got.
Jonah Nickerson improved to 4-3 on the season with a very nice start in the Flying Tigers 4-0 win over Palm Beach. He gave up just a hit and a walk with eight strikeouts in 7 2/3 innings.

Rick Porcello didn’t get the win, but he had another nice start in Lakeland’s 4-1 win over Dunedin. He gave up just one run on five hits and a walk with five strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings. Zach Simons got the final batter out in the sixth and he got the win while Guillermo Moscoso had an impressive outing. He struck out five of the six batters he faced over two perfect innings.
Jeramy Laster and Brandon Timm both hit solo shots. Brennan Boesch went three for four with a double and a run.
Matt O’Brien didn’t get the win, but he threw a nice game as Lakeland topped Tampa 1-0. He gave up just two hits with two strikeouts in six shutout innings. Jordan Tata picked up his first win with two shutout frames.
Scott Sizemore drove in the lone run of the game for either side. Shawn Roof singled and he scored the only run.
Lakeland had a tough time at the plate as they lost a close one to Tampa 3-1. Cale Iorg went two for four with the lone run and Ryan Strieby went two for two with a walk and an RBI.
Jonah NIckerson took the loss despite a solid start and he fell to 3-3. He gave up three runs on eight hits and a walk with five strikeouts.
It took ten innings but the Flying Tigers took care of the Tampa Yankees 6-2. Duane Below didn’t get the win, but he threw a nice enough game. He gave up two runs (one earned) on five hits and a walk with ten strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings. Angel Castro threw two shutout innings and he improved to 2-1 on the season.
Scott Sizemore singled and scored two runs in the win. Cale Iorg scored once and drove in two despite not getting a hit while Michael Bertram singled twice and scored a run.
Brandon Timm had a nice day at the plate as the Flying Tigers doubled up Vero Beach 8-4. He went three for four with a homerun, three RBIs and two runs. Santo De Leon doubled twice and drove in three.
Jonah Nickerson improved to 3-2 with a good enough start. He gave up four runs on eight hits and one walk with four strikeouts in seven innings of work.
The pen couldn’t get the job done as a solid start by Duane Below went to waste in a 6-3 loss to St. Lucie. Below gave up two runs on seven hits and two walks with four strikeouts in six innings but Derek Witt and Ed Clelland combined to give up four runs in the seventh and eighth and that cost the Flying TIgers the win.

Duane Below improved to 2-2 on the season with a nice start in the Flying Tigers 7-2 win over Dunedin. He gave up two runs on seven hits and four walks with six strikeouts in five innings.
Justin Justice got it done at the plate and he went three for four with a walk, a solo homer and two runs. Shawn Roof went two for four with a double, two RBIs and a run.
