Yorman Bazardo fell to 7-5 on the season after a tough start in the Mud Hens 9-1 loss to Norfolk. He gave up six runs on eleven hits and two walks with one strikeout in five innings of work.
Jack Hannahan drove in the only run for the Hens with a solo homerun, his twelth homerun of the season. Kevin Hooper doubled twice.
Virgil Vasquez improved to 9-3 on the season with an impressive five hit shutout in the Hens 2-0 win over Norfolk. He gave up one walk and he struck out four in the win.
Henry Mateo doubled, scored and drove in a run. Kevin Hooper singled, drew a walk and drove in a run.
Jordan Tata improved to 3-1 on the season with a nice start in the Mud Hens 2-1 win over Louisville. He gave up just three hits and two walks with four strikeouts in seven shutout innings.
Jack Hannahan had a solo homerun in the win. Kevin Hooper went two for three with a double, a walk and a run.
Kevin Hooper singled home David Espinosa in the bottom of the ninth to win it for the Mud Hens, but it was slugger Mike Hessman who once again stole the shot. He went three for four with a double, a homerun and three RBIs. The homerun was his 26th and he now has 84 RBIs in 84 games.
Virgil Vasquez had a nice start but he didn’t get the decision. He gave up two runs (one earned) on four hits with six strikeouts in 6 1/3 inings. Aquilino Lopez picked up the win and he struck out three in 1 1/3 shutout innings.
The Mud Hens weren’t able to get much done at the plate in their 3-1 loss to the Durham Bulls. Chris Shelton doubled and he drove in the only run while Kevin Hooper doubled and scored the only run.
Ron Chiavacci took the loss although he actually threw a decent game. He gave up two runs (one earned) on six hits and three walks with seven strikeouts in six innings of work.
Ron Chiavacci improved to 7-4 on the season with a nice start in the Hens 5-2 win over Ottawa. He gave up two runs on seven hits with four walks in seven innings.
Kevin Hooper went two for three with a walk, an RBI and three runs. Ramon Santiago went three for five with a double and a run.
Kevin Hooper singled home Henry Mateo in the bottom of the eleventh inning to win it for the Mud Hens. Ryan Rayburn had a nice day at the plate in the 3-2 win. He went three for five with a solo homerun and Hooper finished with three hits and two RBIs.
Jordan Tata threw five shutout innings in his start. Ian Ostlund picked up the win and he threw a shutout eleventh inning.
Ryan Rayburn had a career today in the Mud Hens 14-5 win over the Clippers. He went four for five and he hit for the cycle. He drove in three and scored three in the win. Mike Hessman hit his thirteenth homer of the season and he drove in four runs while Kevin Hooper scored three times.
Yorman Bazardo coasted to an easy win with all of the offense. He gave up one run on six hits and four walks with one strikeout in six innings and the win improved his record to 3-3 on the season.
Dennis Tankersley was crusing in this one, and he came out in the eighth inning after giving up two runs to make it a 6-3 lead. Then in the ninth, the Jason Karnuth collapsed and gave up six runs to lose it. The two errors in the inning didn’t help things though.
Chris Shelton had a big day at the plate. He went two for three with two doubles, two walks and four RBIs. Kevin Hooper went four for five with two doubles, an RBI and two runs.
Virgil Vasquez’s first two starts were very bad. Fortunately, his last two have been very good and this time around, he shut out Durham through six innings and even more impressive were his ten strikeouts. You could be looking at Chad Durbin’s replacement if he has one more solid start and Durbin tanks another one.
Ryan Rayburn and Mike Hessman each drove in two run. Hessman and Kevin Hooper each went yard in the 10-2 win.
After two straight losses, Virgil Vasquez bounced back with a fine outing against the Durham Bulls. He gave up just three hits and a walk with nine strikeouts in five innings.
Brent Clevlen singled and drove in two runs in the 6-0 win. Kevin Hooper went two for five with an RBI.
So far, Virgil Vazquez hasn’t adjusted to Triple A yet as he was hit hard in his second straight start. This time he gave up six runs (four earned) on twelve hits and a walk with one strikeout in six innings of work. Jason Karnuth threw two innings of relief and he gave up a run on one hit and two strikeouts.
Kevin Hooper had a nice day at the plate. He went three for four with a double and two runs. Ryan Rayburn doubled and drove in a run while Brent Clevelen had two hits. Chris Shelton continued to hit well and he drove in two runs and singled and he’s hitting .375 so far this season.
Ron Chiavacci got it done on the mound tonight for the Mud Hens and he picked up the win. He gave up just a single run on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts in five innings.
Timo Perez had two hits and he drove in three runs Kevin Hooper scored three times in the 6-2 win.
