Lakeland finished their season with an 8-1 loss to Dunedin. Mark Sorensen took the loss and he fell to 1-2. He gave up five runs (four earned) on eight hits and two walks with four strikeouts. Nolan Moody was also hit hard and he gave up three runs in 2 2/3 innings.
Devin Thomas went two for four with a triple and he scored the lone run. Jordan Cruz singled in his only at bat and he drove in the lone run.
Alexander Nunez had a nice day at the plate in the GCL Tigers 6-3 win over the GCL Phillies. He went two for four with a triple, a home run, two RBIs and two runs. Jordan Cruz singled twice, scored two runs and drove in one.
Rayni Guichardo improved to 3-4 with a decent start. He gave up three runs on four hits and two walks with two strikeouts in six innings. Melvin Mercedes pitched a shutout ninth and he picked up his thirteenth save of the season.
Jared Wesson made the most of minor league debut this afternoon and while he pitched just three innings in his start, he struck out seven and he gave up just a walk and a hit in three shutout innings. Wesson was signed as a free agent by the Tigers last week and he pitched at both Mississippi State and Itawamba Community College. He was the Marlins 29th round draft pick out of high school way back in 2005.
Robert Diaz fell to 4-2 in the 4-3 loss. He gave up three runs and he was able to get just one GCL Blue Jay out.
Jordan Cruz went two for three with a walk, a home run and two RBIs. Luis Castillo doubled twice, drew a walk and drove in one.
The GCL Tigers could muster just two hits as the lost to the GCL Blue Jays 4-2. Jordan Cruz accounted for the bulk of the Tigers offense with a two run blast in the seventh inning. The only other hit was a single by Luis Castillo.
A solid start by Rayni Guardado went to waste. He gave up three runs on seven hits and one walk with five strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings.
Giovany Soto improved to 1-0 on the season with a solid start in the GCL Tigers 2-1 win over the GCL Yankees. He gave up just one unearned run on two hits and two walks with three strikeouts in six innings. Melvin Mercedes struck out two in a shutout ninth and he picked up his eleventh save of the season.
Eddie Rush was the hitting star in the win. He went two for four with a double, a walk and a run. Jordan Cruz doubled, drove in one and scored.
Zach Samuels improved to 1-1 on the season with a really nice start in the GCL Tigers 3-1 win over the GCL Pirates. He gave up one unearned run on six hits and two walks with four strikeouts in seven innings. Melvin Mercedes pitched a shutout ninth and he picked up his eighth save of the season.

The GCL Tigers had a tough time getting anything going at the plate in their 3-1 loss to the GCL Blue Jays. Jordan Cruz doubled and he drove in the lone run while Alexander Nunez went two for three with a walk.

The GCL Tigers scored an eighth inning run and that proved to be the difference in their 3-2 win over the GCL Yankees. The game winner was a triple by Jordan Cruz that scored Patrick McKenna. Alexander Nunez also had a nice day at the plate and he went two for four with a double and a run.
Zach Samuels had a solid start and he gave up two runs on five hits and three walks with five strikeouts in six innings. Robert Diaz improved 1 2/3 shutouts to improved to 3-1 while Melvin Mercedes pitched a shutout ninth to pick up his sixth save of the season.
The GCL Tigers edged the GCL Phillies 6-5 and it was Francisco Martinez who got it done at the plate. He went two for four with a double, three RBIs and two runs. Jordan Cruz went two for four with a run.
Robert Diaz picked up the win and he improved to 2-1 with 2 1/3 innings of shutout relief. Melvin Mercedes struck out one in a shutout ninth and he picked up his fourth save.
You’re not going to win too many games when you make more errors (2) then you score runs (1) and that’s what happened in their 3-1 loss to the GCL Yankees. Jordan Cruz doubled and he scored a run while Francisco Martinez doubled and drove in one.

The GCL Yankees and GCL Tigers split shutouts today as they made up a rain out. The GCL Tigers were on the losing end of a 3-0 game in the first one. Bruce Rondon gave up two runs on four hits and three walks with five strikeouts in four innings and he dropped to 0-1. The hitters managed only four hits and all four were singles.
Game two went a lot better and it was a 1-0 win. Marcos Nunez improved to 1-0 with three innings of shutout relief while Melvin Mercedes pitched a shutout ninth to pick up his third save of the season. Jordan Cruz was the hitting star and he went two for three with two doubles and a run.
The Tigers haven’t played in a while but they finally got two games in today as they lost both ends of a doubleheader with the Blue Jays. Ramon Lebron had a tough time finding the plate in game, which was a 3-0 loss. He gave up two runs on two hits but he walked five and struck out five in three innings. Jordan Cruz led the way at the plate with a double and a walk.
Game two was closer but the result was the same. Jose Diaz gave up three runs (two earned) on four hits with a strikeout in three innings. Hernan Perez went three for four with two doubles and a run.
