The Hens struggled at the plate today as they lost to Buffalo 7-2. The Hens scored both of their runs on a two run homer off the bat of Henry Mateo.
Virgil Vasquez was roughed up and he fell to 1-1. He gave up seven runs on ten hits with six strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings.
The Mud Hens won two in one day as they pulled of a sweep over the Clippers. Game one saw Erick Almonte go two for three with a double, three RBIs and two runs in a 5-4 win. Andres Torres went four for four with a double, two triples and two runs. Anastacio Martinez gave up a hit with two walks and a strikeout in 1 2/3 innings of shutout relief.
Game two was a 6-4 Mud Hens win. Jason Perry belted a two run homer while Henry Mateo went two for three with a walk and two runs. Vic Darensbourg improved to 6-2 and he gave up one hit with four strikeouts in two innings of shutout relief.
The Mud Hens had a tough time getting anything going at the plate in their 4-2 loss to Indianapolis. Henry Mateo was the hitting star with two singles, a run and a walk while Erick Almonte went one for one with three walks.
Anastacio Martinez went the distance in the loss and he fell to 5-6. He gave up four runs (three earned) on six hits and a walk with four strikeouts.
Jeremy Johnson gave up three runs in the ninth inning but all it did was turn a comfortable 5-1 lead into a nail biting 5-4 win. Yorman Bazardo picked up the win with an excellent start. He gave up one run on five hits and one walk with three strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings and the win pushed his record to 9-5.
Henry Mateo was the hitting star in the win. He went two for four with a double, a solo homerun and two runs scored.
Brent Clevelen singled home Henry Mateo in the bottom of the tenth inning to win it for the Hens. It was Clevelen’s second hit of the game and David Espinosa also had two hits and he drove in a run.
A pretty good start by Dennis Tankersley almost went to waste. He gave up one run on seven hits and two walks with three strikeouts in 7 2/3 innings. Jeremy Johnson picked up the win with a shutout tenth inning.
Virgil Vasquez improved to 9-3 on the season with an impressive five hit shutout in the Hens 2-0 win over Norfolk. He gave up one walk and he struck out four in the win.
Henry Mateo doubled, scored and drove in a run. Kevin Hooper singled, drew a walk and drove in a run.
Henry Mateo singled home David Espinosa in the bottom of the tenth inning to win it for the Mud Hens. Jack Hannahan finished the game with two RBIs and Brent Clevlen continued his hot hitting with a three for five game with a solo homerun and a double.
Aquilino Lopez picked up the win with a shutout tenth and he improved to 3-1 on the season. Ron Chiavacci struck out four and gave up two runs in 5 1/3 innings in his start.
In just his second game back to the Mud Hens, Brent Clevlen put together a nice day at the plate. He went three for five with a double, a homerun, three RBIs and two runs. Henry Mateo also had a nice game and he went three for five with two runs in the 8-7 win.
Ron Chiavacci had a tough time and he gave up five runs in 5 1/3 innings in his start. Vic Darensbourg improved to 4-1 with the win and he got two batters out.
Jordan Tata picked up his first win of the season with a nice start in the Hens 8-2 win over Ottawa. He gave up two runs on nine hits and a walk with four strikeouts.
Timo Perez went two for five with a double, a homerun and three RBIs. Mike Hessman hit a solo homerun and Henry Mateo went three for four with a double, an RBI and two runs.
There were plenty of hitting stars and plenty of offense in the Hens 12-6 win over the Syracuse Chiefs. Henry Mateo, Ryan Rayburn and Jack Hannahan all had three hits and Rayburn and Hannahan each drove in three.
Virgil Vasquez was roughed up but the hitters bailed him out. He gave up six runs in his four innings of work. Eulogio De La Cruz picked up the win with three shutout innings of relief. I still think he should be in a rotation somewhere, but De La Cruz is starting to take to the pen after a rough start after his promotion to Toledo.
Kevin Hooper singled home Henry Mateo in the bottom of the eleventh inning to win it for the Mud Hens. Ryan Rayburn had a nice day at the plate in the 3-2 win. He went three for five with a solo homerun and Hooper finished with three hits and two RBIs.
Jordan Tata threw five shutout innings in his start. Ian Ostlund picked up the win and he threw a shutout eleventh inning.
Virgil Vasquez had a mixed start in the Mud Hens 6-5 loss to Syracuse. He did give up four runs on eight hits and two walks in 5 2/3 innings, but he did strike out eight. Roman Colon gave up the go ahead run though and he fell to 0-1 on the season.
Mike Hessman ws the hitting star in the loss. He went two for four with a double, a homerun, two RBIs and a run. Henry Mateo went two for four with a triple, two RBIs and a run.
