Andrew Hess saved some of his best stuff for last as he shut down the the Jays over eight innings in Lakeland’s 4-1 win. Hess gave up just one run on five hits and a walk with five strikeouts in eight innings. Chad Linder pitched a shutout ninth and he picked up his second save of the season.
Hernan Perez went two for three with a triple and he scored two runs. Francisco Martinez went one for three with a run and an RBI.
The GCL Tigers got a really nice start from Giovany Soto as they topped the GCL Phillies 7-4. Soto improved to 2-0 and he gave up four hits and a walk with three strikeouts in five shutout innings.
Francisco Martinez went three for five with a run and an RBI. Elvin Soto went two for five with a double, a triple, two runs and two RBIs.
The GCL Tigers edged the GCL Phillies 6-5 and it was Francisco Martinez who got it done at the plate. He went two for four with a double, three RBIs and two runs. Jordan Cruz went two for four with a run.
Robert Diaz picked up the win and he improved to 2-1 with 2 1/3 innings of shutout relief. Melvin Mercedes struck out one in a shutout ninth and he picked up his fourth save.
You’re not going to win too many games when you make more errors (2) then you score runs (1) and that’s what happened in their 3-1 loss to the GCL Yankees. Jordan Cruz doubled and he scored a run while Francisco Martinez doubled and drove in one.
A really nice start by Rayni Guichardo went to waste. He gave up an unearned run on four hits and three walks with three strikeouts in six innings. Robert Diaz took the loss and he fell to 1-1 after he gave up a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.
