Erik Crichton not only gave up the tying run in the bottom of the ninth to put the game into extra frames, but he also gave up the losing run in the eleventh and he fell to 3-3. It’s too bad because Brayan Villarreal had a really nice start. He gave up two hits and a walk with seven strikeouts in five innings.
Brandon Douglas went two for five with a double and a run. Fransisco Martinez went two for four with a walk and a run.
Bryan Pounds had a huge day at the plate as the Flying Tigers beat up on Brevard County 8-3. Pounds was a perfect five for five with a double, two runs and two RBIs. Rawley Bishop also had a nice game and he went two for three with a double, two runs and two RBIs.
Mark Sorensen struck out seven and gave up three runs in 5 1/3 innings in his start. Erik Crichton improved to 1-0 with 1 2/3 shutout innings and Ramon Garcia pitched two shutout innings of relief to close out the game.
Luke Putkonen didn’t get the win last night, but he had an outstanding start in the Whitecaps 1-0 win over South Bend. He gave up just five hits and a walk with six strikeouts in eight shutout innings. Erik Crichton struck out two in a shutout ninth and he improved to 4-0.
The Whitecaps didn’t score their lone run until the ninth inning. Avisail Garcia singled home Ben Guez for the walk off hit. Guez and Garcia were also the only hitters to rack up more then one hit.
The Whitecaps and Dragons combined to score 31 runs today and they were a ton of hitting stars in the 20-11 win. Bryan Pounds had a team high six RBIs while Ben Guez drove in five. Alden Carrithers had a team high four runs. Oddly, none of the 20 runs came via the long ball.
Erik Crichton picked up the win and he was one of the few pitchers to throw without giving up a run. He gave up a hit and a walk with one strikeout in two innings and the win pushed his record to 3-0.
Matt Hoffman threw another good one and he improved to 4-0. He gave up just four hits and two walks with six strikeouts in seven shutout innings. That brings his ERA down to a sick 0.84 on the season and he has 27 strikeouts and just seven walks in 32 1/3 innings. This is just his second start, but in those two starts he’s thrown 15 shutout innings.
Erik Crichton threw a shutout ninth and he picked up his second save of the season. On the hitting side, Gustavo Nunez went two for four with a run. Ben Guez doubled, drew a walk and scored once.
The Tigers took care of the Doubledays in an exciting eleven inning pitcher’s duel that saw both teams shut down at the plate. Jonathan Kibler struck out nine in eight shutout inning before he left the game. Then Erik Crichton threw 2 2/3 innings but got into trouble in the top of the eleventh when he put two men on. Rudy Darrow came in and got the final batter out though and he picked up the win.
Michael Sullivan singled home Casper Wells in the bottom of the eleventh for the lone run from either team. Wells finished the game with a team high three hits and for Sullivan, it was his single came on his only at bat of the game. Game two is tomorrow.
Justin Henry scored on a wild pitch in the tenth inning to edge Brooklyn 3-2 in ten innings. Ron Bourquin was the hitting star in the win. He went three for four with a triple and two runs.
Erik Crichton picked up the win. He gave up one hit with a shutout tenth inning.
Casper Wells and Kody Kaiser hit back to back homers in the top of the eleventh inning to win it for the Tigers in their 4-2 win over Staten Island. Ron Bourquin and Justin Henry each had three hits in the win.
Erik Crichton improved to 2-0 on the season. He threw two perfect innings and he struck out one in the win.
Oneonta won their first game 4-2 over Lowell and Kody Kaiser led the way at the plate. He went two for five with a double and he drove in two runs. Devin Thomas went two for four with a double and he drove in one.
