The pen couldn’t get the job done as a solid start by Duane Below went to waste in a 6-3 loss to St. Lucie. Below gave up two runs on seven hits and two walks with four strikeouts in six innings but Derek Witt and Ed Clelland combined to give up four runs in the seventh and eighth and that cost the Flying TIgers the win.
Santo De Leon had a nice day at the plate. He went three for four with a double, a homerun and two runs.
It’s been a pretty rough second half for the Flying Tigers and their woes continued with a 4-3 loss to Tampa. Derek Witt took the loss and he fell to 2-1. He gave up one run on one hits and a walk with two strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings of relief.
Jeffrey Kunkel had a team high three hits and he scored a run. Deik Scram reached base three times with two singles and a walk.
Christopher Cody wasn’t awesome, but he certainly held his own in his first Florida State League start. He gave up two runs on five hits and a walk with three strikeouts in four innings before giving it up to the pen. Derek Witt then had a tough time and he gave up seven runs (three earned) in three innings and he took the loss.
Wilkin Ramirez went two for three with a double and a run in the 9-2 loss. Rafael Mendez went two for four with two RBIs.
Michael Hernandez had a big day at the plate in Lakeland’s 10-8 win over Sarasota. He went two for five with a homerun and four RBIs in the win. Ryan Roberson also had a nice game and he went two for four with a solo homerun and three runs.
Kyle Sleeth was hammered and it looks like his time with Lakeland isn’t going to be much better then when he was with Erie Derek Witt picked up the win and he gave up one run in his three relief innings.
The Flying Tigers lost 9-6 to Palm Beach and the pen gave up six of the nine runs. Jacob Ramos gave up three runs and he took the loss and then Derek Witt gave up three more to seal the deal.
Wilkin Ramirez went three for four with a triple, two RBIs and a run. Ovandy Suero walked twice, scored two runs and he stole his 38th base of the season.
