Jackson Melian had a huge day at the plate in the Seawolves 10-5 win over Bowie. In a game where eight of Erie’s runs came in the first two innings, Melian went three for four with a homerun, five RBIs and two runs. Clete Thomas went three for five with a triple, an RBI and two runs.
Matthew Righter was touched up for five runs in 4 2/3 innings and he didn’t get the decision in his start. Danny Zell picked up the win with 1 1/3 innings of shutout relief and he improved to 2-5 on the season.
Erie lost to Akron 7-6 and a throwing error by Kody Kirkland resulted in three unearned runs in the loss. Andrew Kown was roughed up in his start and he gave up six runs (three earned) on ten hits and two walks with three strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings. Danny Zell took the loss and he gave up one run in 2/3 of an inning.
Nick Trzesniak went two for four with a homerun, two RBIs and two runs. Jackson Melian went three for four with a double, a triple, an RBI and a run.
A pretty good start by Jeffrey Gerbe went to waste in a 7-2, ten inning loss to the Fisher Cats. Gerbe gave up two runs in six innings and it was Danny Zell who took the loss when he gave up two of the five runs in the tenth.
Mike Hollimon went two for six with two doubles and a run. Matthew Joyce went two for five with a solo homerun.
Erie entered the ninth inning down 1-0 and nobody was probably more upset then Eulogio de la Cruz, who pitched eight great innings. He gave up just one run on five hits and a walk with six strikeouts.
Fortunately, the Sea Wolves got some timely hitting. Jeff Larish hit a leadoff homer in the bottom of the ninth to send the game into extra frames, and then in the tenth, Steve Torrealba went yard with a walk off solo homerun to end the game. Danny Zell ended up picking up the win with two perfect innings of relief in which he struck out four batters.
