The Mud Hens lost their first game in their hunt for their third straight Governors Cup in a high scoring affair. Dennis Tankersley was knocked around for five runs in 3 1/3 innings but the Hens came back from that only to see Jason Karnuth give up four runs to take the loss. Hens pitchers gave up runs in six of the eight innings they pitched in.
Chris Shelton homered, drove in two and scored twice in the 11-8 loss. Andres Torres went two for five with a double and three runs.
The Mud Hens lost their final regular season to the Clippers 4-3 and it was a late inning meltdown that saw Columbus score two in the eighth and two in the ninth. Chris Lampert, the player to be named later in the Mike Maroth trade, threw six shutout innings in which he struck out ten. Then Aquilino Lopez gave up two unearned runs in the top of the ninth as the Clippers completed their comeback.
Chris Shelton belted a two run homer, his fourteenth of the season. Michael Hollimon had his best game since he joined the Mud Hens and he went two for four with a triple and a run.
Virgil Vasquez threw a gem as he pitched his second complete game shutout of the season in the Hens 4-0 win over Indianapolis. He gave up just two hits and a walk with seven strikeouts and the win pushed his record to 11-5.
Chris Shelton provided the offense with a grand slam homer in the fourth inning. It was his thirteenth long ball of the season.
The win pushed the Hens out to an eight game lead over Indianapolis and a playoff spot is pretty much in the bag. It’ll be fun to see the Hens go after their third straight Governor’s Cup.
Ron Chiavacci improved to 11-6 with a nice start in the Hens 5-2 win over Columbus. He gave up one run on four hits with six strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings.
Mike Hessman went two for two with two walks, a homerun and three RBIs. Chris Shelton had a team high three hits with two doubles, a run and an RBI.
Dennis Tankersley got off to a rough start but he settled down and improved to 9-6 in the Hens 4-2 win over Indianapolis. He gave up the two runs on five hits and three walks with eight strikeouts in eight innings of work.
Dane Sardinha belted a two run homer in the seventh inning to help out the cause. Chris Shelton went two for two with two walks and a run.
Yorman Bazardo improved to 10-5 on the season with a nice start in the Mud Hens 5-2 win over Norfolk. He gave up two runs (one earned) on six hits and a walk with one strikeout in eight innings of work.
Marcus Thames was the hitting star in his final rehab game. He went two for four with a solo homerun. Chris Shelton went yard with a solo shot and he scored two runs.
Virgil Vasquez improved to 10-3 on the season with a nice start in the Hens’ 2-1 win over Richmond. He gave up one run on three hits and two walks with three strikeouts in six innings of work.
Both Mudhen’s runs came via solo homeruns. Chris Shelton and Dane Sardinha both yard for the Mud Hens. It was Shelton’s eleventh homerun and Sardinha’s fourth.
Yorman Bazardo had one his best starts of the season with a complete game four hitter. He did give up one run but it was unearned and he walked two and struck out four. The win pushed his record to 8-5 on the season.
Chris Shelton went two for four with a solo homerun in the 4-0 win. Andres Torres went two for three with an RBI.
Jordan Tata put together a nice start but a fielding error by Chris Shelton in the bottom of the sixth inning led to two unearned runs that cost the Hens in their 3-2 loss to Charlotte. Tata fell to 3-2 and he gave up three runs (just the one earned) on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings.
Timo Perez put the Hens on the board in the first inning with a two run homer but that’s all the Hens would score the rest of the way. Chris Shelton had the only other hit of the game with a single.
The Mud Hens nearly doubled up the Bats when it came to hits with 11 versus the Bats 6, but that wasn’t reflect in the score as the Hens lost going into the break 4-3. Chris Shelton went two for four with an RBI while Timo Perez went two for four with a double, a run and an RBI.
Anastacio Martinez fell to 2-5 on the season with the loss. He gave up two runs in 1 2/3 innings of relief.
The Mud Hens weren’t able to get much done at the plate in their 3-1 loss to the Durham Bulls. Chris Shelton doubled and he drove in the only run while Kevin Hooper doubled and scored the only run.
Ron Chiavacci took the loss although he actually threw a decent game. He gave up two runs (one earned) on six hits and three walks with seven strikeouts in six innings of work.
Mike Hessman has been an RBI machine for Mud Hens and he continued to do it in the Hens 13-7 win over the Bulls. He went two for four with a homerun, three RBIs and two runs. Chris Shelton went two for three with a homerun, three RBIs and two runs while Timo Perez had three hits, two runs and two RBIs.
Yorman Bazardo picked up the win and he improved to 7-3 on the season. He gave up four runs on eleven hits and two walks with seven strikeouts in six innings.
Virgil Vasquez just can’t catch a break. He’s had some rough starts lately but even in his good ones, the team hasn’t hit for him and today was no exception. He fell to 7-3 and he gave up two runs on just three hits with three strikeouts in eight innings in the 2-1 loss.
Chris Shelton had the only extra base hit of the game with his 23rd double. He also drove in the only Hens run of the game.
Aquillino Lopez gave up a run in the bottom of the tenth and he took the loss in a tight ten inning game between Ottawa and the Hens. A pretty good start by Ron Chivacci went to waste. He gave up three runs on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts in eight solid innings.
Jack Hannahan had a great day at the plate in the 4-3 loss. He went three for three with a double and a two run homer. Chris Shelton went two for four with a double, an RBI and a run.
The Mud Hens poured on the offense in their 12-3 blowout win over the Syracuse Chiefs. Chris Shelton went two for four with a homerun and two runs. David Espinosa tripled and he drove in three runs while Mike Hessman went three for three with a double and three runs.

Kenny Rogers was definitely a sight for sore eyes and he looked pretty sharp in his first rehab start. He gave up just three hits and he struck out two in 3 2/3 innings. Ron Chiavacci picked up the win and he gave up one run on three hits and a walk with three strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings.
Chris Shelton had a nice day at the plate in the 2-1 win. He went two for three with two doubles and a run.
Virgil Vasquez improved to 6-2 on the season with a nice bounce back start over the Yankees. He gave up three runs on five hits and a walk with nine strikeouts in six innings of work.

Dennis Tankersley dropped to 4-3 on the season with a rough start in the Mud Hens 8-5 loss to the Clippers. He gave up seven runs on ten his and a walk in just three innings.
Timo Perez was the hitting star in the loss. He went three for four with two doubles. Chris Shelton also had a nice game. He went two for three with a double and two runs and after a slow star, Shelton has brought his batting average up to .280 on the season.
The Mud Hens came from behind from a 5-0 deficit to beat the Columbus Clippers 7-6. Virgil Vasqeuz picked up the win although he was hardly stellar. He gave up five runs on five hits and four walks with two strikeouts in five innings of work.
Mike Hessman had the big hit with a grand slam in the fifth inning. Chris Shelton is starting to heat up and he went two for three with a double, three walks and two runs scored.
The Mud Hens took care of the Knights 9-3 and Timo Perez led the way at the plate. He went three for five with a double, a homerun, three RBIs and three runs. Ramon Santiago also had three hits in the game while Chris Shelton finished with two hits and two runs.
