Rick Porcello Is Hit Hard In Hens Loss

Rick Porcello lost his first game of the season for the Hens in a tough start.  He gave up five runs on ten hits and three walks with three strikeouts in six innings.  Ryan Perry also had a rough outing in the 7-3 loss.  He gave up an unearned run on one hit and two walks with a strikeout in 1 2/3 innings.

Will Rhymes had another nice game and he went three for five with a triple and two runs.  Brent Dlugach went two for four with a double.

Armando Galarraga Has Solid Start In Hens Loss

A solid start by Armando Galarraga was wasted in the Hens 2-1 loss to Syracuse.  He gave up two runs on eight hits and two walks with eight strikeouts in seven innings.  Dan Schlereth continued his solid season with two strikeouts in a shutout eighth inning.  He now sports a 1.46 ERA and He’s struck out 13 in 11 1/3 innings. He still has to work on his control though because he has twelve walks.

Brent Dlugach went three for four with a solo home run.  Will Rhymes went three for four.

Ruddy Lugo Throws Five Shutout Innings In Hens Win

The Hens took care of Indianapolis 6-0 behind some really strong pitching.  Ruddy Lugo improved to 1-1 and he gave up just three hits and four walks with two strikeouts in five shutout innings.  Casey Fien followed that up with three shutout innings of relief and then Robbie Weinhardt pitched a shutout ninth to finish up the win.

Will Rhymes had a big day at the plate.  He went four for five with three runs, a double and an RBI.  Brent Dlugach went three for five with two runs and an RBI while Brennan Boesch went three for five with a double, a triple and three RBIs.

Brent Dlugach’s Three Run Blast Pushes Hens In Win

Brent Dlugach belted his first home of the season and it was a three run shot as the Hens took care of Indianapolis 6-3.  Dlugach also doubled while Will Rhymes went two for four with a run and an RBI.

Alfredo Figaro picked up the win despite a shaky outing.  He gave up three runs on six hits and two walks with four strikeouts in five innings.  Scot Drucker pitched two innings of shutout relief while Jay Sborz pitched a shutout ninth to pick up his second save of the season.

Mud Hens Rally to Bear Columbus

The Hens came back from a 7-4 deficit to beat the Clippers 8-7.  Brent Dlugach went three for three with a walk, a double, a triple and two runs.  Scott Sizemore went two for four with double, a walk and two RBIs while Mike Hessman went two for five with a double, a home run and three RBIs.  Hessman has finally found his stroke since the All Star Break. Prior to that, he had an OPS of .678 and since it’s .933.  He’s also hit nine home runs since the break in 33 games versus 10 in 80 games prior to the break.  August has been his best month (1.012 OPS) so hopefully he gives the Hens a strong finish.

Scott Drucker was hammered for seven runs in three innings.  Zach Simons threw two shutout innings of relief and he improved to 2-0 while Casey Fien threw a shutout ninth to pick up save number twelve.

Brooks Brown Throws Seven Solid Frames In Hens Loss

A solid start by Brooks Brown went to waste as the Hens fell to the Chiefs 3-2.  Brown fell to 3-8 and he gave up three runs on four hits and two walks with three strikeouts in seven innings.

Brent Dlugach went three for five with two doubles, and a run.  Jeff Frazier doubled twice in the loss.

Eddie Bonine Throws Eight Solid Frames In Hens Win

Eddie Bonine improved to 2-4 on the season with a nice start in the Hens 5-3 win over Buffalo.  He gave up three runs (two earned) on seven hits with one strikeout in eight innings.  Josh Rainwater pitched a shutout ninth and he picked up his second save of the season.

Jeff Larish had a nice day at the plate. He went two for four with a home run and two RBIs.  Brent Dlugach went three for four with a double and a run.

Hens Shutout Twice By Buffalo

The good news is, Hens pitchers gave up just three runs over fourteen innings.  The bad news is, the Hens couldn’t manage a single run in a pair of losses to Buffalo.  In game one, a solid start by Chris Lambert went to waste.  He gave up one run on four hits and a walk with three strikeouts in six innings but he still fell to 4-7.  Don Kelly and Brent Dlugach singled and that was it.

In game two, the Hens managed seven hits but still couldn’t score.  Don Kelly and Max St. Pierre had two singled each in the 2-0 loss.  Scot Drucker fell to 7-3 and he gave up two runs on four hits with two strikeouts in five innings.

Nate Bump Shuts Down Indianapolis In Hens Win

Nate Bump got it done again as he improved to 2-0 in just two starts this season.   The 32 year old former Marlin gave up just six hits with two strikeouts in 7 1/3 shutout innings.  Casey Fien pitched a shutout ninth and he picked up his eighth save of the season.

Will Rhymes went two for four with a double, a run and an RBI.  Brent Dlugach went two for four with one double, a run and an RBI.

Brent Dlugach Homers Twice In Hens Win

Brent Dlugach had a monster day at the plate as the Hens dismantled the Clippers 12-4.  He went three for four with a double, two home runs, three RBIs and three runs.  Wilkin Ramirez belted a solo home run and he scored twice while Brent Clevlen went two for five with two runs and two RBIs.

Scot Drucker picked up the win and he improved to 6-2.  He gave up four runs on seven hits and four walks with two strikeouts in six innings.  Matt Rusch gave up one hit in three shutout innings and he picked up his first save of the season.

Hens Held to Two Hits In Ten Inning Loss

It’s bad enough when you pick up just two hits in a contest but it’s even worse when you get an extra inning and all you can still manage is a pair of hits.  Mike Hessman drove in the lone run and he didn’t get a hit and Brent Dlugach singled and he scored the lone run.

A fantastic start by Brooks Brown went to waste.  He gave up one run on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts in seven innings.  Ron Chiavacci gave up the tenth inning run andhe fell to 1-5 on the season.

Hens Lose to Bulls In Fifteen

The Hens and Bulls almost played two games as they finished a 15 inning marathon after over four and a half hours.  Matt Rusch took the loss and he fell to 2-3 after he gave up a pair of runs in the top of the fifteenth.  A solid start by Lucas French went to waste and he gave up two runs on five hits and two walks with eight strikeouts in seven innings.

Brent Dlugach went just one for six but his one hit was a two run blast.  Brent Clevlen went two for five with a walk and a run.

Jeff Larish Leads Hens In Thirteen Inning Shootout

Well, the dust finally settled on the Mud Hens 11-10, thirteen inning win after Jeff Larish doubled home Clete Thomas in the bottom half of the frame.  It capped off an awesome game by the first baseman in which he went five for six with with two doubles, a walk, three RBIs and three runs.  Brent Dlugach also put together a nice game and he went two for five with a double and four RBIs.  Clete Thomas had four singles, two walks and he scored four times.

Eddie Bonine was roughed up in his four inning start and he gave up four runs.  Ryan Perry pitched the final two frames and he walked just one to pick up his first win (and game) as a Hen.

Solid Start By Chris Lambert Is Wasted In Hens Loss

The Hens struggles continued as they lost to Rochester 2-1.  A nice start by Chris Lambert was wasted and he fell to 3-6.  He gave up two runs (one earned) on three hits and one walk with three strikeouts in six innings.

Jeff Larish and Scott Sizemore had two singles a piece.  Brent Dlugach doubled and he scored the lone run for the Hens.

Hens Held to Six Hits In Loss to Tides

The Hens couldn’t get much going at the plate and they lost to the Norfolk Tides 5-1.  They picked up just six hits and Wilkin Ramirez picked up two of those and he scored the lone Toledo run.  Brent Dlugach had the lone extra base hit with a double.

Ruddy Lugo took the loss and he fell to 4-5.  He gave up four runs (just one earned) on four hits and three walks with a strikeout in six innings.

Hens Lose In Eleven

This was a tough one.  The Hens got some offense going but the pen blew a three run lead in the ninth that sent the game into extra frames and then Rob Chiavacci gave up a run in the bottom of the eleventh as the Hens lost to the Bulls 6-5.  A solid start by Chris Lambert went to waste.  He gave up two runs (one earned) on four hits with six strikeouts in six innings.

Mike Hessman pushed his batting average a bit closer to the Mendoza line with a solid day at the plate.  He went two for five with a double, a home run and two RBIs.  Brent Dlugach went two for four with a two run blast.

Lucas French Throws Seven Shutout Innings In Win Over Knights

The Hens took care of Charlotte 5-1 and Lucas French got it done on the mound.  He gave up just five hits and a walk with six strikeouts in seven shutout innings.  Casey Fien gave up a run in his two frames but it was good enough for save number four.

Don Kelly led the way at the plate and he went two for four with a double, two RBIs and a run.  Brent Dlugach went two for three with a walk and an RBI.

Eddie Bonine Pitches Erie To Win Over Bowie

Eddie Bonine improved to 2-1 on the season with seven solid innings in the Sea Wolves 6-2 win.  He gave up one run on five hits with three strikeouts.

Brent Dlugach had a big day at the plate. He went two for four with a three run homer and two runs scored.  Jackson Mellan also had a nice game and he went two for four with a homerun, two RBIs and two runs.

Eulogio De La Cruz Strikes Out Ten In Erie Loss

Eulogio De La Cruz took a hard luck loss today as the Seawolves provided him with only two runs of support.  He gave up three runs on seven hits and he struck out ten without walking a single batter. The loss drops him to 2-2 on the season.

Erie managed just three hits and Brent Dlugach was the only Seawolf to reach base three times.  He singled, walked twice and scored a run.

Erie Splits Doubleheader With Akron

Because of the rainout last night, Erie played two against Akron and each team took a game.  Erie won the first one 4-2 with a strong outing by Dallas Trahern.  The big right hander improved to an impressive 4-0 on the season and he gave up two runs on six hits and a walk with two strikeouts in six innings of work.  At the plate, Brent Dlugach went two for three and he scored two runs.

Game two didn’t go as well because Akron won 7-3.  Jair Jurrjens was hit hard and he lost his first decision of the year.  He gave up five runs on four hits and two walk with four strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings.  Andres Torres went one for three with both one run and one RBI.
