Rudy Lugo and Casey Fien combined for a solid outing as the Hens took care of Lehigh Valley 5-3 in the first of two. Lugo gave up three runs (just one earned) on three hits and three walks with two strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings. Fien threw 1 2/3 innings of shutout relief and he improved to 1-0. Will Rhymes doubled, drove in two and scored once while Scott Sizemore went two for four with a double and a two run home run.
Lauren Gagnier threw five shutout innings and he improved to 2-2 in the second game. Dan Schlereth and Jay Sborz then threw shutout innings each to finish up game. Sborz picked up his eleventh save of the season. Danny Worth singled, scored a run and drove in one. Ben Guez hit a solo home run, his second of the season.
Lakeland hitters were held in check to the tune of just three hits in a 3-0 loss to Tampa. Ben Guez had two of those hits while Rawley Bishop drew a pair of walks.
Adam Wilk took the loss and he fell to 0-1. He gave up two runs on four hits and ne walk with four strikeouts. Matt Hoffman and Ramon Garcia both threw two shutout innings of relief.
Ben Guez doubled and Alden Carrithers singled for the Flying Tigers lone two hits in a 4-0 loss to Tampa. Carrithers was the only hitter to reach base twice because he also drew the lone walk.
Luke Putkonen fell to 0-1 with a rough start. He gave up three runs on six hits and a walk with three strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings. Matt Hoffman had a nice outing of the pen though. He struckout one and didn’t allow a baserunner in three innings of relief.
There were a few hitting stars in the Whitecaps 8-5 win over Fort Wayne but Gustavo Nunez was a notch above the rest. He went three for five with a double, a triple, two runs and two RBIs. Ben Guez went three for five withtwo doubles, a run and an RBI while Alden Carrithers went two for four with a walk, wo runs and an RBI.
Erick Crichtron picked up the win and he improved to 6-0. He gave up a run on two hits and a walk in two innings of relief. Adam Wilk had a decent start but he didn’t qualify for the win. He gave up a run on four hits with five strikeouts.
Casey Crosby did it again and he improved to 9-4 with a really nice start in the Whitecaps 3-0 win over South Bend. He gave up just two hits and a walk with five strikeouts in six shutout innings. Tyler Stohr pitched a shutout ninth and he picked up his 17th save of the season.
Jordan Lennerton went two for three with a walk, a double and two RBIs. Ben Guez went two for four with a solo home run and two runs.
Luke Putkonen didn’t get the win last night, but he had an outstanding start in the Whitecaps 1-0 win over South Bend. He gave up just five hits and a walk with six strikeouts in eight shutout innings. Erik Crichton struck out two in a shutout ninth and he improved to 4-0.
The Whitecaps didn’t score their lone run until the ninth inning. Avisail Garcia singled home Ben Guez for the walk off hit. Guez and Garcia were also the only hitters to rack up more then one hit.
Ben Guez had a huge day at he plate as the Whitecaps took care of Cedar Rapids 10-4. He went five for five with a double, a home run and four RBIs. Billy Nowlin went one for two with a walk, three runs and an RBI.
Adam Wilk was very sharp in his first start after getting promoted from Oneonta. He gave up just two hits and he struck out seven in six shutout innings. Robert Waite gave up four runs (three earned) in three innings of relief but since he went three, he picked up his second save of the season.
It’s been a tough season for Brandon Hamilton but he put things together last night in the Whitecaps 4-0 win over Quad Cities. He gave up three hits and two walks with four strikeouts in six shutout innings and the win improved his record to 4-3 on the season.
Ben Guez had the big hit with a three run blast in the first inning. It was his eighth home run of the season. Jordan Lennerton pitched in with three singles and he scored a run.
Luke Putkonen fell to 6-6 on the season with a rough start in the Whitecaps 7-4 loss to Kane County. He gave up four runs (three earned) on eight hits with three walks and two walks in 3 1/3 innings.
Billy Nowlin was a perfect three for three with two doubles. Ben Guez went two for four with an RBI and two runs.
Brayan Villarreal improved to 3-0 on the season with a really nice start in the Whitecaps 9-0 win over Peoria. He gave up six hits and a walk with six strikeouts in five innings. Tyler Conn struck out two in his one inning of relief.
Mike Gosse was a perfect four for four with a double, two runs and two RBIs. Ben Guez went three for five with a home run, three RBIs and two run.
The Whitecaps managed just a pair of runs in their 4-2 loss to Peoria. Casey Crosby took the loss and he fell to 7-3. He gave up four runs (two earned) on three hits and a walk with two strikeouts in three innings. Victor Larez was particularly impressive on the mound and he pitched five innings of shutout relief.
Joseph Bowen went two for four in the loss. Ben Guez went one for four with a double, a run and an RBI.
The Whitecaps made just as many errors (four) as they scored runs (2) in a 5-2 loss to Wisconsin. Brandon Hamilton didn’t help things with six walks in four innings but three unearned runs tagged to Victor Larez resulted from the misplays. Larez fell to 4-5 on the season.
Billy Nowlin went two for three with a walk and a double. Ben Guez belted a solo home run and he scored a pair of runs.
The Whitecaps and Wisconsin combined to scored one run on just five hits in a 1-0 loss. Brent Wyatt doubled and Ben Guez singled and that was the extent of the Whitecaps offense.

The Whitecaps made as many errors as they scored runs in a 4-2 loss to Dayton last night. Ben Guez led the way with a double, a single and an RBI while Gustavo Nunez played a part in both runs when he tripled, drove in a run and eventually scored.

Mark Sorensen improved to 3-2 on the season with a really nice start in the Whitecaps 4-1 win over the Loons. He gave up just a run on six hits with four strikeouts in eight innings. Tyler Conn struck out two in a shutout ninth to pick up his third save of the season.

Casey Crosby improved to 3-0 in the Whitecaps 8-0 win over Quad Cities. He gave up just four hits and four walks with five strikeouts and the solid start pushed his ERA down to 2.53. He has 52 strikeouts in 42 2/3 innings but he hasn’t pitched past the sixth inning.
Ben Guez had the big hit of the game. He belted a grand slam in the third inning. Brandon Douglas went three for three with a double, a triple, one walk and two runs.
This looks like it would have been a fun game to catch. The White Caps were pummelled in the first four innings and for at least a half inning, they were down 8-0. Then they slowly began to chip away at the lead until they stormed back and scored three in the ninth on a Ben Guez three homer to tie it. Then in the bottom of the thirteenth, Luis Palacios scored on Brandon Douglas’ sac. fly to win it.
Guez finished two for seven but he had the big hit in the ninth. Ron Bourquin went three for six with an RBI in the 9-8 win.
Brandon Hamilton took the brunt of Clinton’s offense and he gave up six runs in 1 2/3 innings. Jared Gayhart gave up just two hits and a walk in four innings of shutout relief while Tyler Stohr struck out four and gave up just one hit in three shutout innings to improve to 2-1 on the season.
Matt Hoffman threw another good one and he improved to 4-0. He gave up just four hits and two walks with six strikeouts in seven shutout innings. That brings his ERA down to a sick 0.84 on the season and he has 27 strikeouts and just seven walks in 32 1/3 innings. This is just his second start, but in those two starts he’s thrown 15 shutout innings.
Erik Crichton threw a shutout ninth and he picked up his second save of the season. On the hitting side, Gustavo Nunez went two for four with a run. Ben Guez doubled, drew a walk and scored once.
Mark Sorenson improved to 3-3 on the season with a nice start at the Tigers took care of Aberdeen 4-2. He gave up two runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks with six strikeouts in six solid frames.
Ben Guez belted a solo homer in the win. Brent Wyatt went two for three with a run.
David Stokes fell to 2-2 on the season after a tough start in Oneonta’s 5-3 loss to Batavia. He gave up five runs on six hits with four strikeouts in five innings of work. The pen got it done and three relievers combined to throw three shutout innings with six strikeouts but the offense couldn’t get it going in the late innings.
Ben Guez belted a two run homer in the loss. Hayden Parrott also went yard with a solo shot.
