The Whitecaps took a 5-2 lead into the bottom of the ninth but when the dust settled, they took a 6-5 loss because of a rough outing by Melvin Mercedes. He was credited with four runs on three hits and a walk in just 1/3 of an inning. Jose Ortega actually gave up the hit that scored the winning run for South Bend.
Avisail Garcia went four for five with two RBIs and a run. Alexis Espinoza went four for four with two doubles, a walk and two runs.
The White Caps suppressed a late inning surge by Fort Worth to win 4-3. Giovany Sota had a fantastic start in which he struck out ten. He gave up just one run on two hits and a walk in five innings. Melvin Mercedes threw a shutout ninth and he picked up his first save of the season.
Avisail Garcia and Jamie Johnson both drove in a pair of runs. Hernan Perez went three for three with a run.
Casey Crosby improved to 8-3 on the season with another nice start in the Whitecaps 4-2 win over Clinton. He gave up a run on just two hits with a walk and seven strikeouts in five innings. Tyler Stohr pitched a shutout ninth and he picked up his fourteenth save of the season.
Brent Wyatt had a big day at the plate and he went four for five with a double, a run and an RBI. Avisail Garcia also had a nice game and he went three for four.
Casey Crosby fell to 4-2 on the season in a tough start as the White Caps lost to Fort Wayne 9-5. He gave up four runs on five hits and three walks with four strikeouts in three innings.
Brandon Douglas went two for four with a double, three RBIs and a run. Avisail Garcia went two for four with a double and a run.
