Detroit Tigers Minor League Baseball Commentary and Analysis

Being a lifelong Tiger fan I tend to take further interest in the organization than most of my colleagues. I have a history rooted in them and somewhat of a childhood fantasy if you will thinking about anything to do with the old english D. So when Magglio Ordonez, the 2007 A.L. batting champ, the man who hit one of the biggest home runs in Detroit history and which made me jump off the couch and go crazy, walked through the door to our locker room, I have to say I was a bit star struck. This does not happen to me often, I thought I was pretty much over the whole feeling of celebrity awe. However that lifelong Tiger fan came out and it was pretty cool. People asked me, “Oh man, what was it like to play with Maggs?” Honestly, I couldn’t stop looking at that hair. That set of locks is the real deal and I have heard rumors but at that moment when he walked in I really wished I could grow my hair like that. Let’s get serious, who wouldn’t win a batting title with that hair? I haven’t hit in five years, and got the itch back. Ok enough with that, the real truth is that he put on a great display on and off the field. The crowd was completely sold out just as it was when Granderson was here (sorry Curtis, Maggs drew more) and we felt a buzz in the park and through the team which is something we had been lacking lately. Being a foreign born player (Venezuela) I wasn’t expecting him to buy into the whole media circus and attention that would surround him, but he did very well. He even found time to share a few stories and some laughs with us. I wrote about how when Curtis came through earlier that the next guy to rehab with us did it the same way and Magglio certainly did that. And by that I mean he bought us steaks after the game.

Hello Andrew,
Really enjoy reading your blog! Love the inside baseball stuff.
I have followed your career since Mary told me you signed with the Tigers. I do some photography work for the Vermont Lake Monsters of the NY PENN League. I thought I may get the chance to meet you when the Oneonta Tigers came to town. I am sure you don’t miss all the “fun” that the NY PENN League can provide.
Glad to hear you have recovered from your injury, and are doing so well! Look forward to reading your blog during the season.
All the Best,
Mark D.
